D.J. Stephens of the D-League’s Iowa Energy took flight to throw down a massive dunk to cap off a gorgeous play

With March Madness in full swing and the NBA gearing up for the playoffs, the NBA D-League has largely been taking a backseat in the minds of basketball fans. However, the Iowa Energy and guard D.J. Stephens made sure that they and the D-League stayed in everyone’s minds as they pulled off one of the craziest, most beautiful fast break plays you’ll ever see.

Playing against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Thursday night, Energy guard Andrew Harrison got loose on a fast break with only one defender back and hit James Ennis across the lane with a gorgeous behind-the-back pass. Rather than stopping there, though, Ennis tossed a lob up over his head and toward the rim that D.J. Stephens came flying in to grab the lob and then throw it down viciously to cap off the incredible sequence:

Who cares if it’s the D-League, because that’s one of the best basketball plays you’re ever going to see, regardless of what level or league it happened in. Stephens quite literally took flight to go and grab that lob, which would have been awesome in itself. But the insane passing display to set up the dunk was equally as impressive.

There may be other basketball storylines trumping the D-League right now, but D.J. Stephens and the Energy certainly have bragging rights when it comes to the best play.
