The No. 3 Miami Hurricanes and No. 2 Villanova Wildcats engaged in a spirited battle on Thursday.

After the Miami Hurricanes and Villanova Wildcats took care of business in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, the two schools met on Thursday night, in a Sweet 16 battle where the winner would advance to the Elite 8 and the loser would see their time in March Madness come to an end.

In the first half, the Wildcats would jump out to a huge lead early over the Hurricanes. Behind some incredible shots by Kris Jenkins and the scoring of Ryan Arcidiacono, the Wildcats would increase their lead by double digits and it looked like they were aiming to end the thing early.

The Hurricanes wouldn’t fold early against the Wildcats however. Behind the assists of Angel Rodriguez and the scoring of Sheldon McClellan, the Hurricanes would cut the lead toward the beginning of the second half.

Just when it looked like the Hurricanes would make this a game, the Wildcats would unload from deep and starting three after three late. At one point in the second half, the Wildcats were 10-15 from beyond the arc and they stretched their lead over the Hurricanes to 20.

Despite the best efforts of Rodriguez to never give up and fight his hardest until the end, it wasn’t in the cards for the Hurricanes, as the Wildcats kept their foot on the pedal to ensure their berth in the Elite 8 and a game in Louisville on Saturday night.
