March Madness bracket 2016: Villanova advances to Elite Eight

A look at the updated 2016 March Madness bracket after Villanova beat Miami to advance to the Elite Eight

The Villanova Wildcats certainly had their fair share of doubters coming into the 2016 NCAA Tournament and March Madness given their multitude of shortcomings in recent years in these type of situations. However, they looked to be much better prepared than in previous seasons in the first two rounds of the tournament. The question was whether or not that would change against the Miami Hurricanes in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night.

Right from the opening tip, it became abundantly clear the Villanova wasn’t about to repeat history and, at the very least, that they were going to make it incredibly difficult to defeat them in the Sweet 16. As the game wore on, though, their lead only increased and their ticket to the Elite Eight only inched closer to being punched.

With several minutes left in the game, though, Miami turned on a full-court press that, in essence, sealed the victory for Villanova as they attacked it with success and ease and the Hurricanes only fell further behind. In the end, it was a huge victory for the Wildcats to push them through to the South Region championship game.

With Villanova advancing to the Elite Eight, let’s take a look at the updated 2016 March Madness bracket to see where things stand and what’s on deck for Villanova potentially.
