Yoenis Cespedes refused to pick up a ball that he thought was out of play, allowing an inside the park home run to the Astros.

The New York Mets invested a lot of money into outfielder Yoenis Cespedes this offseason, with Cespedes potentially hitting free agency after this season $27.5 million richer. He has his quirks but he is an immensely talented player whom the Mets need to have success if they want to win the World Series in 2016.

Well, the outfielder had a brief brain fart during a spring training game against the Houston Astros as he thought that a ball was unplayable when it was actually in play, allowing the Astros to get an easy inside-the-park home run.

Thank goodness that this is a spring training game because that’s a very dumb play from Cespedes. That said, ground rules can be a bit strange at each park, as the ball went under the fence. Usually, when a ball is lodged under a fence, the umpires will rule it trapped and it will be as if the batter hit a ground rule double. Cespedes got a bit confused and allowed what should have been a double turn into a home run.

Luckily, this is just spring training so the brain fart by Yoenis Cespedes doesn’t mean anything.
