Gonzaga guard Eric McClellan dished out a behind-the-back assist to Kyle Wiltjer for a three
The Gonzaga Bulldogs jumped out to a big early lead against the Syracuse Orange in their Sweet 16 matchup on Friday night. They were feeling it from beyond the arc and seemingly unable to miss. That confidence led to other everyone on the floor for the Zags starting to get into a major rhythm, including guard Eric McClellan who showed off just how confident he was feeling on the fast break.
Leading the break for the Bulldogs to the top of the key, McClellan had the ball in his right hand and had his eyes up at the rim, seemingly looking for someone to cut to the rim. That’s when the guard whipped a beautiful pass behind his back to Kyle Wiltjer on the left wing and the veteran big man coolly knocked down the three to push the Gonzaga lead to 13-4:
When Gonzaga is in the zone like that, they are near unstoppable with how they can attack both on the interior and with the outside shot.
It’s been apparent all tournament long that the Bulldogs were deserving of far better than a No. 11 seed, but they haven’t let that slot them down even slightly. Though there’s plenty of time for a Syracuse comeback, plays like this from Eric McClellan and Kyle Wiltjer certainly make it seem like they aren’t stopping in the Sweet 16, either.
