The No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers moved onto the Elite Eight with a big win over the No. 4 Iowa State Cyclones.

The Virginia Cavaliers and Iowa State Cyclones met in a game on Friday night, that really felt like the Virginia Cavaliers were never in any danger. The Cavaliers quickly got out to a big lead early on in the first and the game had that feeling of they were just going to hold off the Cyclones and match their output shot for shot.

While Virginia forward Anthony Gill did his thing for the Cavaliers and led all starters in scoring, the answer once again for the Cavaliers, as it was many games, was center Mike Tobey coming off the bench and having a big night. Tobey established his presence in the interior and he was getting his shot to fall.

Iowa State tried to match him inside, but every person they threw on him couldn’t keep him from efficiently making his shots. At the end of the first half, the Cavaliers held a 14 point advantage.

In the second half, things were a little different for the Cyclones, as they really pushed the Cavaliers and kept them from running away with the game when it looked like at a time that the game was going to enter blowout territory.

Georges Niang was the high scorer for the Cyclones and he hit some big shots late to keep it a game. However, for as hard as the Cyclones fought to keep it from getting away from them, the Cavaliers never let them get too close to make things uncomfortable.
