Syracuse forward Tyler Roberson threw down a thunderous putback dunk against Gonzaga in the Sweet 16
The Syracuse Orange, though highly talented, seemingly were going to be at a disadvantage in the frontcourt on Friday night as they took on the Gonzaga Bulldogs and their highly touted duo of Domantas Sabonis and Kyle Wiltjer. However, Syracuse junior forward Tyler Roberson made it known early in the first half that he was capable of wowing the crowds himself.
Early in the first half against the Zags, Syracuse guard Michael Gbinije caught a pass at the top of the key and hoisted up a three. His attempt was no good and the Bulldogs seemingly had position on the rebound underneath the basket. That’s when Tyler Roberson came charging in and then skied over the Gonzaga big men to throw down a monstrous putback dunk:
My goodness, young man! Try not to hurt anybody when you’re throwing it down like that.
Roberson’s thunderous putback jam was one of the highlights right out of the gate for the Orange as Gonzaga jumped out to a big early lead against the Syracuse zone defense.
That being said, Roberson throwing it down like that against the trees for the Zags is a positive sign that the Orange won’t be totally dominated by the Bulldogs frontcourt. At the very least, Tyler Roberson will be able to show off his athleticism and make some things happen on the interior.
