2016 NCAA Women’s Tournament bracket: Elite Eight Set
A look at the updated 2016 NCAA Women’s Tournament bracket now that the Elite Eight is set
The 2016 NCAA Women’s Tournament kicked back into gear on Friday with the first four games in the Sweet 16 and, as the stakes get higher with each passing round, things got a bit wild in the Women’s Tournament. Now that Saturday’s games have concluded, though, the Elite Eight for the Women’s Tournament is now all set.
In Friday’s four Sweet 16 games in the Women’s Tournament, it was the four lower seeds that all advanced, including the Syracuse Orange and the Stanford Cardinal knocking off No. 1 seeds in their matchups in the South Carolina Gamecocks and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, respectively. Two No. 7 seeds in the Tennessee Volunteers and the Washington Huskies also advanced on Friday to move onto the Elite Eight.
Things normalized a bit on Saturday in the second slate of Sweet 16 games in the Women’s Tournament, though, starting with the No. 1 overall seed in the UConn Huskies absolutely destroying the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The other No. 1 seed in the Baylor Bears also advanced, as did the No. 2 Oregon State Beavers and the No. 2 Texas Longhorns.
Now that the Elite Eight is set in the Women’s Tournament, let’s take a look at the updated 2016 NCAA Women’s Tournament bracket to see where things stand and what matchups no lie ahead.
The real question at this point, as it’s been for most of the season in women’s college hoops, is if anyone even stands a chance against UConn at this point. That seems unlikely given how they’ve played to this point, but that’s the beauty of the NCAA Women’s Tournament—you never know what can happen.
