Oklahoma superstar Buddy Hield wants Kansas to beat Villanova so he can have another shot at Jayhawks in the Final Four
The Oklahoma Sooners have been carried by Buddy Hield throughout their first four games in March Madness, which is probably a big reason why the Sooners were the first team to punch their ticket to Houston for the Final Four on Saturday night to tip-off the Elite Eight action. Now that they’re going dancing, though, Hield and the Sooners will face the winner of Saturday’s second Elite Eight game between the Kansas Jayhawks and Villanova Wildcats. Though the game could go either way, Hield knows who he wants to win.
While Kansas and Villanova were in the first half of their matchup, Hield was asked abut who he wants to face in the next round. Ever the competitor, the Oklahoma star guard confidently responded that he wants the Sooners’ Big 12 rival in Kansas in the matchup to go to the national championship game:
A Buddy Hield detractor could certainly construe those comments as Hield throwing shade at a conference rival. However, considering that Kansas beat the Sooners twice in the regular season, it seems obvious that the Oklahoma senior wants another shot to try and bring them down on the biggest stage yet.
As if Hield’s prospects for the NBA weren’t already rapidly rising given his play in March Madness, this is just another reason that scouts have to love him. You can’t teach this type of competitiveness and desire.
