If there is any player in the Big 10 that will make it to the 2016 Heisman Trophy presentation in New York City this December, one would have to argue that it would be Ohio State Buckeyes junior quarterback J.T. Barrett.
Barrett finished fifth in the Heisman Race as a freshman in 2014 and now has no distractions in the quarterback room. Both Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones have gone pro, so it’s all up to Barrett to lead Ohio State back to the College Football Playoff after missing out in 2015.
Barrett is another prototypical dual-threat playmaker for Ohio State at the quarterback position. He has 3,826 career passing yards for 45 touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 160.1 in his first two years in Columbus. Barrett has also accumulated 1,620 yards on the ground with 22 career touchdowns as a runner.
Ohio State may lose a ton of talent to the NFL Draft in 2016, but will remain as one of the biggest contenders for the College Football Playoff in the Big 10 due in large part to the high-octane nature of their junior quarterback in Barrett.
