After three CONCACAF World Cup qualifying games per team in round four, the updated standings for each group are below.
After round four of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying comes to an end, the top two teams in each group will advance to the fifth round, which is commonly known as the hex. From there the top three teams will automatically qualify for the 2018 World Cup with the four team moving on to an inter-confederation two-legged playoff match.
Friday’s matches marked the half way point in the fourth round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. Some teams stepped it up and earned quality points, while other wish they could have Friday’s match back to change how they played. Luckily, all twelve teams will be back in action next week as they wrap up their qualifying matches for March.
The USMNT struggled from the start and dug themselves in a deep hole on the road against Guatemala. It wasn’t the result they were looking for. Now the pressure is on Jurgen Klinsmann and the team to produce a win on home turf against Guatemala as they currently sit two points behind them with four points. Luckily, after their second-straight match against Guatemala, the USMNT will face Trinidad and Tobago and St. Vincent in winnable games.
Mexico won their third game in round four qualifying and are in great shape as they move into the second half of the current qualifying round. Canada still sits in second place in Group A with 4 points as both sides will meet in Mexico City next week. A Mexico win all but secures a spot for them in the Hex.
