To cap off a North Carolina run, Isaiah Hicks threw down a big dunk off a lob on a beautiful fast break
The North Carolina Tar Heels had built a double-digit lead on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the second half of their Elite Eight March Madness matchup on Sunday night. However, the Irish weren’t rolling over and clawed back to the point that they took a one-point lead over the No. 1 seed in the East Region. That’s when North Carolina turned on the jets and decided to try and stomp out the ACC foe.
After going on another run themselves, the Tar Heels were trying to really send a message. Marcus Paige was on the outside trying to corral a defensive rebound and threw a crazy pass to save the ball from going out of bounds to Kennedy Meeks. Meeks quickly looked ahead and hit Theo Pinson with a long outlet pass on the left side that Pinson then tossed up next to the rim for Isaiah Hicks to throw down with authority:
"Isaiah Hicks THROW IT DOWN! #Elite8 https://t.co/nbL72o7GqZ— NCAA March Madness (@marchmadness) March 28, 2016"
That play is going to be wildly impressive at any moment of any game, but at the moment for North Carolina to cap off a big run to re-establish a lead, that Isaiah Hicks dunk spoke volumes—especially after the gorgeous set-up on the fast break.
Though Notre Dame started to make them sweat, North Carolina’s ability to respond with a run of their own and then plays like this speaks volumes about what they’re capable of.
