A look at the updated 2016 March Madness bracket after Syracuse upset Virginia to advance to the Final Four
The Syracuse Orange were the underdog in their Elite Eight March Madness matchup against the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region in the Virginia Cavaliers and looked like it right out of the gate. What’s great about March Madness, though, is that March Madness means that the game isn’t decided until the final buzzer sounds, which Jim Boeheim and company proved.
Virginia came out of the gate firing and jumped out to an enormous lead in the first half as they were ahead by double-digits for the majority of the first 20 minutes and going into halftime. However, the No. 10 seed Orange weren’t about to go down and they came out ready to fight in the second half.
Freshman Malachi Richardson of the Orange caught fire in the second half to spearhead a comeback for Syracuse and ultimately pushed them ahead of Virginia in addition to the zone defense of the Orange really shutting down the Cavaliers offense. In the end, that run from the Orange was far too much for even a team as dangerous as Virginia to handle as Boeheim’s bunch earned the win to become only the fourth double-digit seed to advance to the Final Four in March Madness.
With Virginia being the third No. 1 seed to fall in the Elite Eight and Syracuse moving to the Final Four, let’s take a look at the updated 2016 March Madness bracket.

Syracuse will have another matchup out of the ACC in the Final Four against either North Carolina or Notre Dame. Either way, the Orange aren’t a team anyone wants to face right now.
