#27 – Wells Fargo Center – Philadelphia 76ers
The Name: As far as sponsorships go, this is a little above average. This is not speaking of Wells Fargo the company itself, which received $25 billion from the federal government during the 2008 housing market collapse. But the name does have a music to it. 6/10
The Aesthetics: This actually isn’t so bad. Unlike the Bradley Center, Wells Fargo is intimate rather than cramped, and that allows the energy of the game to be translated more easily. Red, white & blue is overdone, but for this team it is appropriate, and the court design emphasizes the blue and brings out tasteful, balanced shades.
The Experience: As far as Philadelphia sports fans go, Sixers fans are probably the least antagonistic. This is because the Sixers suck, and the other three Philly teams rest somewhere above sucking (NFL’s Eagles, NHL’s Flyers) or have only sucked very recently (MLB’s Phillies). Going to a Sixers game is the least angry Philly sports experience, which still means you are probably going to get things thrown at you anyway.
Overview: The Wells Fargo Center is truly a reflection of the city it inhabits: unwelcoming and self-conscious about its inferiority.
