Power Rankings: NBA Arenas
#24 – Quicken Loans Arena, A.K.A “The Q” – Cleveland Cavaliers
The Name: It reminds fans of daytime television commercials and midday depression. 1/10
The Nickname: “The Q” provides the arena with a sense of intrigue. It also makes it sound like some massive cultural landmark, something that defines Cleveland more than the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame or Erie sludge water. Why “The Q” hasn’t become universal is beyond imagination. 9/10
The Aesthetics: The Court design is among the worst in the NBA, as the Cavs choose to emphasize the wine red and navy blue over the mustard-y gold, a sin similar to the Pelicans over-reliance on their navy blue. On TV, the stadium looks atrocious. In person, it’s much better, with good viewing and solid sound.
The Experience: The actual ticket-buying experience is a hassle, where you are essentially forced to buy Cavs tickets off of “Flash Seats,” a site that gives off the classy vibe of a low-grade flea market. One major positive is the location, which is directly in downtown Cleveland rather than somewhere randomly off of the Cuyohoga River.
Overview: With the Cavs positioned to go deep in the NBA playoffs, The Q will again be populating our screens.
