The VJ Beachem dunk on North Carolina fittingly got the Jim Ross treatment.
March Madness is all about the underdog, and fans tend to get on board with these types of teams the deeper into their busted brackets we get. Syracuse is the ‘cinderella’ team of March thanks to their 10-seed status, but it could be argued that the bigger underdog is Notre Dame.
Where Syracuse might have been under seeded, there are some who thought Notre Dame was over-seeded — even if only slightly so. Regardless, the Irish are doing something we haven’t seen them do before and that’s go on a massive tear through their region to knock on the door of the Final Four.
To get their, they had to get through North Carolina on Sunday, and boy if it wasn’t an interesting ride. VJ Beachem won over underdog hearts everywhere when he dunked on the Tar Heels — like seriously dunked on them in the most violently possible way.
Of course, the Beachem dunk got the Jim Ross treatment and became even more fantastic than it already was.
There have been better dunks in other games, but there was more to this than just the act of dunking. Yeah, it was an impressive play and one that posterized a North Carolina player — but this was Notre Dame showing up North Carolina in the Elite Eight.
That just doesn’t happen — like, ever.
But it did. And now we have Jim Ross to help us celebrate the moment forever.
