ACM Awards 2016 nominees list
The 51st ACM awards will be handed out Sunday, April 3rd at 8:00 PM Eastern on CBS.
The annual gathering for the Academy of Country Music in Las Vegas is just under a week away. Awards will be doled out to the best country music has to offer over a myriad of categories.
While much of today’s country radio is dominated by “bro country” and the typical “I drink on Friday night, hunt on Saturday and go to church on Sunday” songs, it seems the Academy is more impressed by artists that are pushing the envelope of the genre.
Eric Chruch and Chris Stapleton lead all artists with five nominations each.
Church is known as this era’s outlaw of country music. He doesn’t have the same sound as the outlaws of the 70s, but instead focuses on infusing rock-n-roll into country and developing different sounds for each new song.
Stapleton is an artist who has made waves with only one album to his name. That debut record, Traveller, goes back to the roots of country music — taking away all the glossy production and sticking to traditional instruments and soulful vocals.

- I’m Comin’ Over – Chris Young

- Traveller – Chris Stapleton
- Tangled Up – Thomas Rhett
- Mr. Misunderstood – Eric Church
The ACMs will be co-hosted by Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley. 10 of the 21 awards given out will be shown on the CBS broadcast, but as usual it will be stretched out for three hours with performances from the biggest stars of country.
