With there being a pretty glaring need at the position, the Browns might be targeting a wide receiver early
With the 2016 NFL Draft coming up, once again there is a lot of focus being put on the Cleveland Brown, who once again are picking high in the order thanks to an abysmal previous season. With their No. 2 overall pick coming up, the thinking is that they will be taking a quarterback, which makes a lot of sense, even with the recent signing of Robert Griffin III.
However, there is another position that needs to be addressed for the Browns on the offensive side of the ball, that position being wide receiver. After they get their quarterback that they want to pair with Griffin, they might just turn their focus to getting someone reliable they can throw the ball to.
New head coach Hue Jackson is not shy about letting everyone know that he’s concerned about the state of his wide receiver position.
“It’s an area we need to address obviously,” Jackson said via the Browns’ official website.
With that being the case and with free agency basically having not much to offer at this point, you’d expect that they’ll go right after the best wide receiver available to help address the need and ease the mind of Jackson in the process in regards to his wide receivers.
It doesn’t look as if Josh Gordon will be coming back, and really the two best options they have at wide receiver right now are Brian Hartline and Andrew Hawkins. They’re fine hands to have in the NFL, but the Browns desperately need a Gordon-like play maker for either RG III or the rookie quarterback to get the ball to.
The 2016 NFL Draft might help them there.
