Kevin Durant who?

Though the Washington Wizards are expected to be among the throng of NBA teams chasing Durant in free agency this summer, head coach Randy Wittman apparently has eyes for someone else:

Makes sense.

Kobe Bryant will only be 38 years old when next season tips off. That’s younger than Tim Duncan. If the Wizards wish to make the leap from fringe playoff team to championship contender, it stands to reason they need Kobe. And if handing him a max contract makes Bradley Beal, a soon-to-be 23-year-old restricted free agent, collateral damage, then so be it.

It’s a shame, really, Wittman didn’t make these comments ahead of the 101-88 beating Washington dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. Any Wizards fans in the Hollywood area could have then rolled up to Staples Centers with the necessary “Kobe to Washington,” “Kevin Durant Who?” and “Way-Too-Old Kobe > Way-Too-Old MJ” posters.

On a totally unrelated note: Can we expect commissioner Adam Silver to fine Wittman and the Wizards for tampering, or is the facetious recruitment of retiring players before they actually hang it up allowed?
