4. Cleveland Indians

Putting the Indians at 4th in the division is more of a testament to the strength of the rest of the league than it is to the Indians’ talent themselves. I like the Indians lineup and rotation, but find them to be more likely to hover around .500 like last season, as opposed to making the jump to being a title contender.

Projected Lineup

1. Francisco Lindor, SS
2. Jason Kipnis, 2B
3. Michael Brantley, LF
4. Carlos Santana, DH
5. Mike Napoli, 1B
6. Yan Gomes, C
7. Lonnie Chisenhall, RF
8. Juan Uribe, 3B
9. Rajai Davis, CF

The Indians offense starts with the exciting young shortstop Francisco Lindor (pictured), who is great on both offense and defense. They’ll likely need a MVP-like season from Michael Brantley to be an elite offense, but a shoulder injury has him in doubt for opening day. You likely know what you’re going to get from Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana, but outside of that there are a lot of question marks. If Lonnie Chisenhall or Yan Gomes can prove to be reliable bats, that’ll help immensely.

Projected Rotation

1. Corey Kluber
2. Carlos Carrasco
3. Danny Salazar
4. Trevor Bauer
5. Josh Tomlin

If the Indians are going to make a run for the title, it will largely be a result of stellar pitching. The four up top are nearly as good as it gets and would be dangerous if they could get to a playoff series. However, the lack of a consistent offense will force the starters to work deep into games to keep them competitive.

Projected Record: 81-81
