2016 MLB season: AL East preview
By Jason Parker
The AL East will again be one of the most competitive divisions in all of baseball. Here’s a preview of the five teams fighting for the title.
Over the last decade, the AL East has been one of the most dominant divisions in baseball. Since 2006, an AL East team has made it to the World Series four times, and come out World Champions on three occasions (the 2007 and 2013 Boston Red Sox and the 2009 New York Yankees). After an offseason where every team in the AL East seemed to be a buyer in the free agent market, it wouldn’t be surprising to see another one of these ball clubs make it to the Fall Classic.
Last season, the Toronto Blue Jays won the AL East crown, while the New York Yankees qualified for the AL Wild Card game. But it is the Boston Red Sox who are the early favorite to win the division in 2016 after acquiring one of the best pitchers in all of baseball in the offseason.
Can Boston go from worst to first this year, or will the Blue Jays and Yankees again be the teams to beat? What about the Tampa Bay Rays, who seem to compete every year, and the Baltimore Orioles? Here’s your guide to the 2016 AL East.
