5. player. 11. . 3B. Baltimore Orioles. Manny Machado
The 2018 free agent class is going to be absolutely loaded with All-Star caliber players at every position, and all hitting the market together. Some will get re-signed before then and Baltimore Orioles fans need to hope that his guy is signed.
Manny Machado was drafted as a shortstop but came up in 2012 down the stretch to help the Orioles reach the postseason and it looked like he had played there every day of his life.
Machado became an All-Star the next year and after an injury plagued so-so campaign in 2014 emerged again as one of the best third baseman in the game, winning the Gold Glove for the second time, reaching the All-Star game again and finishing fourth in the AL MVP balloting.
Machado reached career highs in average, (.286) homers, (35) RBI, (86) steals, (35) and OPS (.861).
The Oriole third baseman was fifth in WAR among position players and saved 14 runs at third base in 2015.
The AL East is wide open. The Orioles have power up and down the lineup and Machado is a big part of their core. If they can get any pitching, the Orioles could return to the postseason. Can Machado be even better than he was last season?
