We all know the story of the Astros picking Carlos Correa. They took him over Mark Appel, who the Astros ended up getting the next year. People thought Correa was going to be good, he just wasn’t expected to come up and make such an impact.

Correa came up and helped give the Astros another power threat andĀ they made the playoffs when few people thought they would be as competitive as they were.

In just 99 games, Correa hit .279 with an .857 OPS, 22 homers, 68 RBI and 14 steals. Those numbers helped get Correa the Rookie of the Year Award in the American League.

Correa has to work on the things that really every young hitter has to do. He could walk more (he only walked nine percent of the time) and posted a 0 in the defensive runs saved category which brought down his WAR.

Correa could end up being the best shortstop in the game today. He may be there already and at just 21, who knows what kind of numbers he can put up or even end up with at the end of his career. He’s a big reason why the Astros are going to contend again in 2016.
