Will Lamar Miller be a RB1 this season? We take a look at that and more.

Lamar Miller is coming off of what was a pretty solid season with the Miami Dolphins. He has however left the Dolphins and has now signed with the Houston Texans who are now without Arian Foster. Miller looks to be a cinch for the feature back position in Houston and should likely go form around 14-15 touches a game with the Dolphins to around 18-20 and possibly more with the Texans.

Last season Miller averaged 4.5 yards per carry and will most likely be able to secure that kind of yardage with the Texans. The Texans have also signed Brock Osweiler and he showed some decent promise filling in for the injured Peyton Manning. The Texans are already stocked with one of the better wide receivers in the game who should be able to keep defenses honest and keep them from loading up to stop the run.

The Texans could wind up being a gold mine for fantasy players in this coming season with the addition of Miller and Osweiler. I really think that a healthy Lamar Miller could wind up being a top five or six back even though I would have a hard time ranking him or drafting him there.

He makes for a very interesting target for guys who play in year round leagues such as dynasty or keeper league formats where pick trading and trading of players is allowed. I like Miller’s talent and think he can excel as a back who gets more touches. I would be willing to take a fairly significant risk to acquire Miller in either a keeper or a dynasty league. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feelings.

You could possibly try to pry him away from an unsuspecting owner who does not realize that his value has gone up, but usually you only wind up making enemies in your league with crappy offers. So go ahead and make a pretty decent offer and possibly unload a position you are strong in to acquire a guy like Miller. Those are usually some of my favorite types of trades in fantasy football is when you trade a wide receiver for a running back or a quarterback.

So to sum it up I am pretty happy with this move for Miller and I am really happy with the few keeper leagues that I already own him in. I expect a pretty big season for him and could easily see him in my top five backs for an early ranking.
