Results, recap, and full highlights for Lucha Underground Season 2, Episode 10

After the debut of Matanza last week in Aztec Warfare to win the Lucha Underground Championship, Lucha Underground Season 2, Episode 10 was can’t-miss television for any wrestling fan.

The show began with Dario Cueto finally taking his place in The Temple once again. He said that he was starting a new Trios Tournament next week and that he needed to decide a new No. 1 Contender for his brother’s recently won Lucha Underground Championship. However, he was interrupted by Pentagon Jr.

Pentagon said that the only reason Matanza won was because he wasn’t in Aztec Warfare. Dario said that was because he wasn’t championship material, but Pentagon then threatened to break the arm of Cueto if he didn’t get to be face-to-face with Matanza for the title tonight. Dario, for his own well-being, obliged.

Johnny Mundo & Taya vs. Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco

The Crew got in some offense early, but Taya showed off her toughness and ability and regained the advantage. With Castro and Cisco reeling, Mundo tagged himself in and began wearing them down. As soon as a comeback started, though, Johnny tagged Taya back in, but still ate a dropkick to send him to the floor for his trouble.

Though Johnny and Taya seemed to be in control soon after with Taya still legal, that’s when Cage came out to torment Mundo and Taya some more. He stalked Johnny and, after Taya ate a finisher from The Crew, Cage prevented Mundo from getting in the ring to break up the pin. The story between these two continues and it continues to be great.

Winners: The Crew

We then got two backstage segments in a row, the first of which featured Marty The Moth telling a story about the Mariposa name and mask as it’s been handed down through history by his tripe of Aztec warriors. This voiceover narration was over his sister, the current Mariposa, absolutely destroying a group of luchadors. She continues to look frightening and loom menacingly.

Next up was a trip to Dario Cueto’s office where Catrina again mysteriously appeared. It was quick as Dario pleaded for peace, but Catrina promised that death was coming for the Cueto family when the time is right. She then vanished. Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Black Lotus was standing watch at the door and never saw Catrina come or go.

Trios Championship Elimination Match: Angelico, Ivelisse, Son of Havoc vs. Disciples of Death

After defeating the Disciples of Death two weeks ago to win back their titles, Angelico, Ivelisse, and Son of Havoc were forced to put them back on the line against the Disciples.

This match was fantastic. Angelico and Son of Havoc gained control right after the bell, but Ivelisse fell victim to a double-team that, in coordination with Catrina interfering, caused her to be eliminated first. However, Angelico came in and made quick work of Trece soon after to even the odds.

It was the risk-taking South African Angelico who fell victim next, though, as he seemingly got a bit too cocky and ate a pin. The odds were stacked against Son of Havoc at that point, but he withstood both Barrio Negro and Siniestro—with the help of Ivelisse taking out Catrina to help really even the odds—and retain the Trios title.

Winners: Angelico, Ivelisse, Son of Havoc

Backstage we got a segment with Rey Mysterio in Dario Cueto’s office where Cueto promised that Matanza had nothing to do with the death of Dragon Azteca.

Sexy Star vs. Mariposa

This match was short and sweet with Mariposa looking just ridiculously scary, including hitting one of the most ridiculous finishers I’ve ever seen to get the win.

Winner: Mariposa

After the match Marty and Mariposa beat down Sexy Star more and The Mack as well.

Matanza vs. Pentagon

Oh man, this is only going to build and it’s going to be so great. So Pentagon got in all the early offense, but he couldn’t do a damn thing to even faze Matanza. Matanza then brutally beat him down to get the win, leaving the father of Cero Miedo lying hurt and vulnerable. His master in Vampiro came in to check on him after the match, but Matanza took him out too before putting Pentagon put him through a table as paramedics came.

Winner: Matanza
