Ah, the sitcom. That half-hour (or really, 22-24 minute) bastion of comedy to which we turn every week to get a few laughs.  But they’re no longer just setups, punchlines and a laugh track.

TV sitcoms have evolved tremendously over the years, going from being series that were strictly about the funny to shows that broke ground and tackled serious issues.

Some of them have changed the way we looked at television. Some have changed the way we looked at life. Others have dared to change up the format and do things differently in creative respects. Still some more just wanted us to have a good time. And all of those things have led to some fantastic sitcoms.

In the following list, we’ll break down the 60 best sitcoms in TV history. Our picks range from TV classics to current favorites. Some are here because they did something unique, some because they had a lasting impact on pop culture, and some because without them we might not have some of the shows or actors we love today. But all of them have one thing in common: they really, really made us laugh.
