Masters 2016: Tiger Woods says he will not participate
Tiger Woods will not be taking part in this year’s Masters tournament.
On Thursday, Apr. 7, the Masters will take place from Augusta, GA. It’s the biggest golf tournament of the year that features most of the top names battling for the prestigious Green Jacket that the winner receives.
In 2015, Jordan Spieth won the Masters and seems to be on his way to multiple Green Jackets. He could replicate what Tiger Woods did in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.
Unfortunately, Woods has not won a Masters since 2005. His next highest finish in the tournament was runner-up in 2008. Of course, the time between then and now has been littered with controversy around his relationship with his ex-wife, injuries, and poor play on the course. The Tiger Woods of old arguably hasn’t been seen since 2009.
The injuries have hurt Woods the most over the past few years. He has dealt with leg and back ailments and was rehabbing in order to make it back for the 2016 Masters. It doesn’t appear that the work he has done to come back will have him ready for next Thursday, though.
On Friday night, Woods took to his official website to announce that he will not take part in the 2016 Masters.
Woods said, “I’ve been hitting balls and training daily, but I’m not physically ready.”
Given all the injuries that Tiger has racked up over the years, it’s best that he tries to heal up for tournaments later in 2016 like the U.S. Open. We probably won’t see the Tiger Woods of old, but if he’s healthy, he could make a run at trophies before the year ends.
