Adrien Broner Calls Out Floyd Mayweather
By Brandon Ogle
After a ninth-round TKO of Ashley Theophane, Adrien Broner called out Floyd Mayweather.
Nicknamed “The Problem,” it’s safe to say that this past week hasn’t been without problems for Adrien Broner. With a sold-out crowd at the DC Armory and Floyd Mayweather sitting ringside, this fight had plenty of emotion, especially after the ninth-round TKO. Mayweather was there supporting Ashley Theophane, who trains at Mayweather’s Las Vegas gym. However, Theophane was clearly outclassed.
Throughout the duration of the fight, Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) time-and-time again had Theophane (39-7-1, 11 KOs) on the ropes. The problematic week that preceded this fight included everything from Broner turning himself in for January aggravated robbery and assault charge to being stripped of his belt for not hitting the 140 pound weight requirement. It was an impressive performance for Broner, but the scene did get more intense in the post-fight.
Essentially, Broner challenged the undefeated champion Mayweather, who is now retired from the sport. In a report from ESPN, Broner said, “Somebody I look up to and somebody I admire talked all bad about me. I don’t know how you all like it. I didn’t like it. I learn s*** from physical activity, so me and Floyd, we got a feud.”
Broner went on to say that a Broner v. Mayweather fight would result in Floyd’s spotless record coming to an end.
Whether we see this fight is unknown, but it didn’t seem like Mayweather took Broner as a serious threat. He laughed ringside as Broner challenged him and said afterwards, “I don’t play kid games with Adrien Broner.”
