Connor McGovern may be rising on 2016 NFL Draft boards after his strong career with the Missouri Tigers in the SEC and his impressive Senior Bowl performance in Mobile, but on some boards he’s still a sixth round pick for some reason. If he’s there at No. 192, expect the Bills to take him with that pick.

Offensive guard, besides those who make a career on special teams, is the most overlooked position in football. Guards don’t set the edge on offensive lines like tackles do or even snap the ball and anchor alignment like centers, but when a pocket collapses, guards are often scapegoats.

By drafting a strong interior offensive lineman that can move like McGovern can, he would be able to provide some interesting protection possibilities at the NFL level, as well as be the leader blocker on sweeps and pitches.

Scouts do believe that he can be beat by some of the quickest pass rushers that choose to attack from the inside, but McGovern could potentially play some swing tackle in the NFL if need be in addition to either guard spot. For a late round pick, McGovern could be worth the gamble for the Bills to fill a tertiary need of offensive guard in the sixth round.
