The San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos have a deal in place for QB Colin Kaepernick, but his $11.9 million salary is a concern.

A deal is reportedly in place to send San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to the Denver Broncos, but the team interested in acquiring the former Super Bowl quarterback is hesitant to pay him his $11.9 million salary.

ESPN is reporting that the Broncos are comfortable paying $7 million to Kaepernick, however the dual-threat passer is unwilling to forfeit the extra $4.9 million. Both the player and the Broncos desire for the Niners to pick up the remaining amount of his contract to make the trade work.

The problem there is San Francisco isn’t the party wanting the split. New head coach Chip Kelly has expressed a desire to keep his quarterback in town, but Kaepernick is the one requesting a new home.

It’s an interesting game of chicken and one could assume the Broncos would blink first. They still feature a Super Bowl caliber team even after watching two quarterbacks leave this offseason.

First, the sure fire future Hall of Fame player Peyton Manning retired and then his understudy Brock Osweiler bolted in free agency. Should Denver stay strong in their demand for a lower salary, they would have to sell Mark Sanchez as the starter to their fan base, which most likely wouldn’t go over very well.
