Jameis Winston would take pay cut for Buccaneers to draft Jalen Ramsey
By Jason Parker
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston is willing to take a pay cut if the team can find a way to land his former FSU teammate, Jalen Ramsey.
One year ago, Jameis Winston made history when he became the first former Florida State Seminoles player to be taken with the top pick in the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a rookie season that saw him throw for over 4,000 yards and the team win four more game than the year before, Winston hopes the team can figure out a way to bring another former ‘Nole onto their roster.
Defensive back Jalen Ramsey is expected to be one of the top three picks in this month’s NFL Draft, with some mock drafts even having him as the top pick. Jameis Winston is pleading his case and willing to do whatever it takes to get the two former FSU stars back together, telling PewterReport.com:
"“We [Florida State] definitely have the best player in the world in Jalen Ramsey. People talk about his position. But Jalen is the best cornerback, safety . . . I will take a pay cut to play with him again.”“He has a fierce mentality,” Winston said. “And the best thing about him is he is a Seminole. I have already shot [Bucs G.M. Jason Licht] some texts.”"
With the Bucs not picking until the ninth spot in the first round, it’s highly unlikely that the duo of former FSU stars will be back together in the NFL.
Several different mock drafts have the Bucs selecting a defensive back with their pick (barring a trade up to get someone like Ramsey), with one option including a rival of Jameis Winston from his college days: former Florida Gators cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III.
