March Madness bracket 2016: Villanova wins National Championship

A look at the final 2016 March Madness bracket after Villanova won the National Championship in the most thrilling fashion

The Villanova Wildcats and the North Carolina Tar Heels were the two hottest teams throughout the entirety of March Madness in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. So it was only fitting that the two teams would meet in the National Championship in Houston on Monday night. Even more so, it’s only fitting that they would deliver an all-time classic.

North Carolina and Villanova played each other incredibly close in the first half, but it was the Tar Heels that pulled away in going into halftime and the ACC Champs took a lead into the locker room. However, Villanova proved all tournament long that they are a team capable of making big second half runs, and that’s exactly what they did.

Jay Wright’s squad went on a big run led by Phil Booth off of the bench and their star guard in Ryan Arcidiacono. They built a lead, but a late Tar Heels flurry got them close, which is when the high-drama started.

Tar Heels guard Marcus Paige hit a crazy three to tie the game at 74-74 with only four seconds left in the game. However, four seconds was enough time for Wright and Villanova to draw up a play and get the ball into Arcidiacono’s hands. He drove the ball up the floor, drew two defenders, and found an open Kris Jenkins behind the arc. The shot went up, the buzzer went off, and the ball fell through the net.

Villanova is your National Champions after one of the most thrilling title games ever. With that, let’s take a look at the final bracket to see the road that led everyone to the Wildcats cutting down the nets.
