The Masters: Mark Richt wants to be Bubba Watson’s caddie

Mark Richt may now be the head football coach at his alma mater at the University of Miami, but would so be down with being Bubba Watson’s Masters caddie.

For 15 years, both former head football coach Mark Richt and two-time Masters Champion (2012, 2014) Bubba Watson were two of the most recognizable men representing University of Georgia athletics. Richt was the second winningest coach behind only Vince Dooley in Georgia history in his 15 seasons as head coach (2001-15). Watson starred on the Georgia Men’s Golf Team before becoming a two-time Masters Champion.

Even though Richt has left Athens to become the head coach at his alma mater with the Miami Hurricanes of the ACC in Coral Gables, he still holds a soft spot for Watson as Dawg Nation’s greatest golfer.

Richt said, via Augusta.com, “Man, I love Bubba. I know he already has a caddie, but I’d do anything he wanted me to if I could walk around Augusta National with him. I’d wash his clubs, you name it.”

Richt played Augusta National once back in 2006 in the first days of Billy Payne being the chairman of the iconic golf course in Augusta, Georgia. Richt was then coming off his second SEC Championship in 2005 and was well on his way to building the Georgia Bulldogs back into a national powerhouse.

While his time at Georgia came to an end the day after Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate against arch rival Georgia Tech in Atlanta, it seems that Richt still holds his 15 years as the head football coach at Georgia in the highest regard.

Though he now works at a different Power 5 institution, wouldn’t it be something if Watson agreed to let Richt be his caddie in The Masters?

Even though Miami doesn’t have as high-profile of a PGA alum as Georgia has in Watson, only Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity and new head football coach Kirby Smart would have any gripes about Richt hypothetically caddying for Watson.
