Carmelo Anthony wants to have a say in who the new head coach of the New York Knicks will be.
The New York Knicks will most likely once again find themselves looking for a new head coach. They have tried several options over the past few years with none of them working out. With a team with some potential stars, their next head coaching hire will be arguably the most important in Knicks history and Carmelo Anthony wants to give his input on their head coaching search.
“I think you have to have some type of input, whether it’s input or dialogue, whatever word that you want to use,” said Anthony, via ESPN. “I think you have to have that. I think at this point it needs to be some type of connection, some type of communication. I would love to have some type of input when it comes to that. But like I said, nobody has had a conversation about that yet.”
Carmelo Anthony has likely had it with the bad coaching hires and with not having success in New York. Anthony is a very competitive player who hates losing. It’s understandable that he’d like the next head coach to get his approval before he or she is hired. At the same time, it would benefit the Knicks to get Anthony’s opinion because the next head coach will have to deal with him anyway. So the next Knicks head coach ought to be someone who Anthony approves of.
This means that Anthony is likely not a fan of current head coach Kurt Rambis, despite Anthony’s compliments of Rambis in recent weeks. Rambis doesn’t have a track record of success. At this stage in his career, it’s hard to imagine that Anthony wants a head coach without a track record of success.
