Indianapolis Colts: 2016 7-round NFL mock draft
By John Buhler
The Indianapolis Colts have a total of six picks in the 2016 NFL Draft. Can the Colts address most of their remaining offseason needs in the 2016 NFL Draft?
The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a rare year in which they failed to win the middling AFC South. Starting quarterback Andrew Luck spent most of the 2015 NFL season on the sidelines dealing with a lacerated kidney and the Colts as a result skidded to a mediocre 8-8 record, failing to reach the AFC Playoffs for the first time in the Luck era.
Head coach Chuck Pagano was on the hot seat for the entire season, but managed to hash things out with eccentric owner Jim Irsay and general manager Ryan Grigson, orchestrating a multi-year contract extension to stay on as the head coach of the Colts franchise for the foreseeable future.
Indianapolis clearly has some work to do to build an AFC elite team with Luck as its starting quarterback. However, the Colts only have six available draft selections in the 2016 NFL Draft to address their nagging depth issues. Indianapolis does not have a sixth round pick this spring as a result of a late preseason trade last year to acquire linebacker Sio Moore from the Oakland Raiders.
For the Colts, their primary needs entering the draft are at defensive end, offensive tackle, and inside linebacker. Their secondary needs are at safety, outside linebacker, and at guard. Finally, the Colts tertiary needs are at running back, cornerback, center, and defensive tackle.
While the Colts won’t be able to fill all 10 of the draft needs this spring, here is a look at what Indianapolis could do with their six draft selections entering the 2016 NFL draft.
