The Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has selected the next potential team owner.
Although Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has no intentions of selling the team anytime soon, he has apparently created a succession plan for the team.
According to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero, Ross has decided to give the New York Businessman Bruce A. Beal Jr. the first crack at acquiring the team when he is either ready to sell the Dolphins or passes away.
In order for Ross’s plan to be considered official, the NFL had to approve Bruce Beal Jr. as a potential owner. It is reported that Ross presented his plan to have Beal as his potential successor to the other NFL owners during the NFL meetings which took place in Boca Raton. The other NFL owners approved the plan, thus approving Beal.
However, it is worth noting that just because Beal has the first chance at buying the team, he is not obligated to purchase the team. He still has the option to refuse.
As of now, Ross does not have any heirs in his family that desire to assume control of the team after his passing. As a result, Ross decided it would be in the best interest of the franchise to try and find a new owner before his passing. However, even though the NFL approved the deal between the current Dolphins owner and Beal, this deal does not stop Ross from not selling the team and passing it down to one of his family members.
Last season, the Miami Dolphins had a rough time. The team went 6-10, and had its head coach fired after a Week 4 loss. Overall, the Miami Dolphins are a team that is stocked full of talent. However, the team has not played up to its potential. Luckily, the team appears to be on the rise after hiring Adam Gase to be the team’s next head coach.
