NBA Rumors: Sam Hinkie ‘mortified’ over leaked 76ers resignation letter

Former 76ers GM Sam Hinkie isn’t pleased with his resignation letter somehow being leaked.

The news that has taken over the NBA this week has been the unexpected resignation of Philadelphia 76ers GM Sam Hinkie. His two-plus years in this executive role had plenty of ups and downs. Acquiring assets to build this team was something the former Houston Rockets assistant GM always received praise for. He traded for multiple first round picks, drafted highly-regarded players, and even stashed a few names.

The main critique over Hinkie’s time in the GM role may have been the on-court talent. While he stockpiled assets, the talent on the court was arguably at the level of a D-League team with the exception of a few players. It led to the Sixers having horrendous seasons with this one being just as bad, having only 10 wins through 78 games.

Now the Sixers and Hinkie have to face the aftermath of the resignation, and so far, it hasn’t been pretty.

One part of the fallout has seen the 13-page resignation letter that Hinkie sent to Sixers management apparently leaked. He’s not too happy about it either, as reported by Yahoo Sports NBA Reporter Adrian Wojnarowski. He specifically notes that Hinkie was ‘mortified’ over the leak.

"Hinkie was mortified to see his words in the public arena, never expecting that a private correspondence to his superiors would become public and turn into something of a mocked manifesto."

The report also notes that he wanted to notify the staff of this decision on his own, but the news getting out there prevented that from happening.

This is becoming an ugly situation that doesn’t seem to be getting better for Sam Hinkie. He’ll have to deal with the fallout while the Sixers move on to the Colangelo Era in Philly.
