The Masters 2016: Jordan Spieth begins Round 2 with two birdies (Video)

Jordan Spieth increased his lead at The Masters with a birdie on his first hole of the second round.

Entering the second round of The Masters, Jordan Spieth found himself on top of the leaderboard thanks to an extremely impressive first round score of six strokes under par.

The last reigning Masters champion to lead after the first round was Jack Nicklaus in 1966, he won that tournament, so Spieth was off to a hot start and it continued in the second round.

Spieth decided to slam his foot on the gas pedal from the start in round two, as he started off his day with a birdie on his first hole and his third hole.

Spieth, who won the 2015 Masters, is trying to become the first golfer to win the tournament in consecutive years since Tiger Woods did so in 2002 and 2003. The only two other golfers to win The Masters in consecutive years are Nicklaus and Nick Faldo. With a win today, Spieth would put himself in elite company. Spieth would be the youngest golfer ever to accomplish the rare feat of repeating as the winner of the tournament.

Since turning pro in 2012, Spieth has seven PGA Tour victories, including two majors (The Masters in 2015 and The U.S. Open in 2015). He also finished in second at The PGA Championship in 2015 and tied for fourth at The Open Championship. No golfer has ever won all four majors in a 365-day span, but Spieth came mighty close. A win at The Masters could set him up another exciting run at history.
