The Masters 2016: Rory McIlRoy double bogey at the 4th (Video)

Rory McIlroy had a difficult time at The Masters with a double bogey on the fourth hole as the second round continues from Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy’s bumpy ride at the Masters has continued into the early part of round two. Starting the day at two under, McIlroy added birdies at holes two and three to quickly move to 4 under, just two back of leader Jordan Spieth, who has yet to tee off.

But as quickly as he picked up the two strokes, McIlroy gave them back with a double bogey five at the par 3 fourth.McIlroy also got to four under on Thursday, but bogeyed the 16th and 18th to drop to -2 for the day. A clearly frustrated McIlroy threw his putter at his golf bag on the 18th hole as he walked off the course.

He told reporters following the round that he was not going to blame the sometimes windy late afternoon conditions for his up and down round, calling the course consistent. McIlroy was in the final pairing of the day that completed the round at almost 7:30 p.m. local time. He said he was disappointed with the way he finished.

With four majors under his belt, including two PGA championships, McIlroy is seeking to become just the sixth golfer in the Masters era to complete the career Grand Slam. Only Gene Sarazen, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods have won all four majors in the modern major era.

In 2011, McIlroy seemed to be in prime position to win his first major at Augusta National, taking a four-stroke lead into Sunday, before shooting an 80 and falling out of the top 10. Charl Schwartzel went on to win.
