Free agent Percy Harvin’s future in the NFL seems cloudier than ever now that it’s “unlikely” he plays in 2016
Percy Harvin was once one of the most electric players in the NFL, a supremely talented wide receiver who also excelled in the return game. Now, just seven years into his professional career, there is mounting evidence that Harvin may have played his last meaningful snap as a football player.
Currently a free agent, Harvin reportedly has received a few standing offers from several different teams, including his current franchise, the Buffalo Bills. But according to a recent report from Fox Sports, it now appears “unlikely” that Harvin will play in the upcoming 2016 season.
Still only 27 years old, Harvin is coming off a shortened season, his first with the Bills, that ended with him being placed on injured reserve nursing knee and hip injuries. The receiver has a long history of hip problems — he tore his labrum in 2013 and missed most of the season recovering from that injury and a concussion sustained in the playoffs. Harvin has also notably battled migraines in the past, and additionally has missed significant time with ankle injuries as well.
He was drafted in 2009 by the Minnesota Vikings, but was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 after only four seasons. Despite helping the franchise win their first championship with an 87-yard kickoff return touchdown in Super Bowl XLVIII, Harvin was traded to the New York Jets after reports surfaced of his involvement in a number of locker room altercations in Seattle. Harvin only played one season with the Jets before being released and then following Rex Ryan to Buffalo.
He had 19 receptions for 218 yards as a Bills receiver in 2015.
