The Detroit Lions have had a lot of poor NFL Draft picks, but which ones rank among the best in franchise history?

If you’ve followed the Detroit Lions over the past couple of decades, that means you’ve seen just how poor this organization has drafted. However, there are exceptions to everything and there have been plenty of solid NFL Draft selections as well — even a few Hall of Famers.

Over the years, this Detroit Lions organization has earned the reputation of being one of the least successful professional sports franchises. One of just a couple of teams that have never won a Super Bowl, the Lions are looking to end that drought with third-year head coach Jim Caldwell in 2015.

It’s likely to remain that way for at least a few more years unless Detroit can pick up some game-changers in the NFL Draft, but that hasn’t happened in quite some time, either — with the exception of Ziggy Ansah a few years ago.

With the NFL Draft coming up in a few weeks, it’s time to look back and reminisce about the best picks in Lions history. With a general manager like Matt Millen running the show for a few years, you can bet that not many picks are recent, but at least one comes from post-2000 — I bet you can guess who that is.

Unfortunately for Detroit, none of the guys on this list play for the Lions currently. If the upcoming draft has players anywhere near the caliber of what’s on this list, Detroit could make the playoffs for the second time in three years.
