Dallas Mavericks vs Utah Jazz
The Dallas Mavericks will secure the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference playoffs with a win over Utah on Monday and it will mark the second-to-last game of the year for both teams. A recent six-game winning streak by the Mavericks nearly made up for a poor streak with 10 out of 12 games resulting in a loss.

Dirk Nowitzki has been the star for the Mavericks for the past decade-plus and he’s leading this team in scoring with 18.3 points to go along with 6.5 rebounds per game. Deron Williams is second on the team with 14 points per contest and leads the way with 5.8 assists per game. Unfortunately, Chandler Parsons isn’t quite healthy for the Mavs.
Going from one of the league’s bottom-dwellers to a serious playoff contender in a year’s time might be the result of top draft picks each season, but also because of developing talent such as Gordan Hayward, Rodney Hood, Rudy Gobert and the return of Alec Burks. This team is young and is only going to get better over the years.
Utah will need to win out to guarantee a spot in the playoffs, just one game up on the Houston Rockets for eighth place with two games left. Hayward leads the way with 19.6 points while shooting 43 percent from the field. Derrick Favors is a force in the post, along with Gobert, and he is putting up 16.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
