Minnesota Vikings mock draft: Complete 7-round edition
This selection is an easy one, in my opinion. The Vikings need a top-tier wide receiver to complement Stefon Diggs and create a clear No. 1 guy for Bridgewater to throw to. Corey Coleman is arguably the second-best receiver available this year.
If Minnesota were drafting 10-15 spots higher, I’d have to mock Laquon Treadwell to the Vikings, but it’s just too bad they made the playoffs last season.
All jokes aside, Coleman is one of the more intriguing prospects in this year’s draft, but this selection was as close to a toss-up with Josh Doctson as you can get. Doctson has one noticeable advantage over Coleman in this position: height. If there was one thing that Coleman lacks heading into the draft it’s size. Doctson is 6-foot-2 while Coleman stands just 5-foot-11.
However, Coleman is just a phenomenal athlete with that ‘wow’ factor. His quickness, soft hands and route-running more than make up for his lack of size. As a sophomore in 2013, he really broke out, catching 64 passes for 1,119 yards and 11 touchdowns with Bryce Petty as his quarterback. During his junior campaign in 2015, he caught 74 passes for 1,363 yards and 20 touchdowns with a host of quarterbacks tossing him the ball.
Coleman has proven he can catch a pass from just about anyone. That’s good news for Vikings fans, even if Bridgewater is a rising star.
