According to a report, Phil Jackson could put David Blatt into consideration for the next head coach of the New York Knicks.
The New York Knicks struck gold in the 2015 NBA Draft when they selected Kristaps Porzingis. While he’s a big building block for the future, the Knicks have a lot of questions going forward about the future of their franchise and there are already a ton of rumors swirling.
There are rumors of whether or not Phil Jackson will continue to head up the Knicks or return home to Los Angeles. Rumors persist about whether or not the team will finally trade Carmelo Anthony to acquire young assets and rebuild around Porzingis.
There are also plenty of rumors about who will be the next head coach of the New York Knicks and whether or not Kurt Rambis will remain the guy in charge, which would probably make Knicks fans vomit uncontrollably even more.
However, the Knicks and Jackson could consider another former head coach for their vacancy. According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Knicks could consider former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt for their head coaching position.
"Jackson views Blatt favorably, according to sources. It’s also worth noting that Blatt played basketball with Knicks GM Steve Mills at Princeton."
Blatt is an interesting name and is certainly an intriguing one for the Knicks to consider. First off, the triangle would have to go as that is different from the style of coaching Blatt prefers. After having issues in Cleveland and never really feeling like he was the guy long term, it would be interesting to see if he could handle the New York market.
The connection is certainly there between him and the Knicks, and if they chose to rebuild around Porzingis, Blatt could be the right coach with his years of extensive coaching in Europe. When he was originally hired by the Cavaliers, Blatt thought he would be taking over a young team led by Andrew Wiggins.
Coaching the Knicks might give him that chance to coach a young team.
