The Arizona Coyotes are expected to fire general manager Don Maloney.

After two disappointing seasons and four consecutive seasons of missing the NHL playoffs, the Arizona Coyotes are expected to make some changes. Those changes will most likely occur in the front office, as head coach Dave Tippett is highly respected within the organization and around the league. According to reports, the Coyotes are expected to fire general manager Don Maloney.

Maloney has been with the Coyotes since he was hired as their general manager back in 2007. He was named the General Manager of the Year after the 2009-2010 season. Should the Coyotes fire Don Maloney, that could be a sign that Arizona is ready to compete for a playoff spot next season. Maloney has done a solid job in helping the Coyotes rebuild, but he hasn’t seen much playoff success during his tenure as the Coyotes general manager other than the 2011-2012 season.

Arizona has not made the playoffs since the 2011-2012 season when they made it to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings in five games. Since then, they have struggled mightily. It is rumored that Dave Tippett could be seeing a promotion into the front office while remaining as their head coach, much like the current role that Colorado Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy has.
