DraftKings MLB Picks For April 12

There are ten games on tap for tonight, which gives us plenty of options to choose from. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science.

Best Bets:

Corey Kluber ($12,200): Kluber is a little more expensive, but he just may be worth it. The Rays are a combined 17-71 (.239) with a home run and four RBI against him. Oh, and the Rays have struck out 23 times in those 71 at bats. That leaves Kluber as likely the best option tonight.

Jose Fernandez ($11,900): Only five current Mets players have faced Fernandez in his career, but they are just a combined 6-25 with a pair of RBI off of him. The Mets are a good and patient team, but Fernandez is a proven pitcher as well.

Honorable Mention:

Masahiro Tanaka ($10,000): The current Blue Jays are only 20-99 (.202) off of Tanaka, but they have hit three home runs off of him. Add back his 30 strikeouts though, and he is worth the risk, even against the loaded Blue Jays.

Wade Miley ($8,200): Wait….hear me out! There are actually stats to support this. The Rangers are only 18-79 (.228) with 18 strikeouts and two homers off of Miley. The bad news? They have driven in 11 runs. However, three of those are from Robinson Chirinos, who is on the DL. Still, if you are looking to save some money, the game is in Seattle, and Miley has held his own against Texas.

Dark Horse:

Aaron Sanchez ($5,900): The current Yankees are just 7-29 off of Sanchez with a homer – a grand slam by Carlos Beltran – the only damage done. He could be a sneaky play, albeit a somewhat dangerous one.

Next: Infielders

You should avoid Clay Buchholz ($8,700) today. The Orioles have hit .288 with six homers and 25 RBI against him in 163 at bats. Chris Davis ($4,500) has homered twice off of him and driven in four in 24 at bats. J.J. Hardy ($2,800) is 7-22 (.318) with a pair of homers and three driven in against him.

The only second baseman you should even consider is Robinson Cano ($4,200). Not only is he on fire in the early going, but he has hammered Derek Holland in his career. Cano is 15-37 (.405) with two walks, three doubles, a triple, two homers, and nine RBI in his career off of the Rangers’ lefty. Yes, this is one case where the lefty-lefty matchup doesn’t work. Want another? Adam Lind ($3,200) is 6-15 (.400) with a homer and six RBI off of Holland. He is a sneaky play if the Mariners start him.

Freddie Freeman ($3,900) is cheaper than many of the first basemen, but he has bludgeoned Gio Gonzalez in his career. Freeman is 9-29(.310) with four doubles, nine runs scored, two homers, and an impressive ten RBI off of Gio. Freeman could reap big rewards here. Erick Aybar ($3,100) is another cheap Brave that could do well against Gonzalez. Aybar is only 5-21 (.238) so he is a bit more of a risk, but he has a triple, and homer, and three RBI.

It’s a small sample size, but Albert Pujols ($4,500) is 4-6 with a homer and two RBI off of A’s starter Kendall Graveman. Is he worth the extra $600? I guess that is up to you.

The Giants as a whole have not fared well (.221 in 86 at bats with no home runs) off of Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood, but Brandon Crawford ($4,200) is the exception. He has five hits and two walks in 14 at bats against him.

The A’s as a whole have fared well off of Hector Santiago. Danny Valencia ($3,500) can be used at 3B or the outfield, and is 5-13 (.385) with two doubles, two walks, and two RBI against Santiago. He could be a good way to save money.

Evan Longoria ($3,400) is 5-14 (.375) with a homer and three RBI off of Kluber. he is the only Rays player to do any real damage against the Cleveland ace, and affords you the opportunity to save some money.

Edwin Encarnacion ($4,500) is a high priced option that might be worth the cash. He is 7-14 off of Tanaka with two doubles, a homer, and two RBI.

Next: Catcher and Outfield

Adam Jones ($4,200) has missed three straight games, but if he plays, he needs to be in your lineup. Jones is 9-32 (.281) with three doubles, nine runs scored, two homers, and an impressive 11 RBI off of Boston starter Clay Buchholz.

Chris Iannetta ($3,200) is a good choice at catcher. He is 7-19 (.368) with a homer and four RBI off of Derek Holland.

I mentioned earlier about Beltran’s ($3,900) slam off of Aaron Sanchez. He may be worth using.

If you are looking for another cheap option, Kevin Keirmaier ($3,000) is 3-8 with a double and a triple off of Kluber.

Look for veteran Jeff Francouer ($2,500) to get the start against lefty Gio Gonzalez. Frenchy is 10-25 (.400) with three doubles, a homer, and three RBI off of him.

New Rockie Gerardo Parra ($3,900) is 6-15 with a double, a homer, and three RBI off of Giants starter Jeff Samardzija.

If Jon Jay ($2,900) plays, he could be worth a look. Jay is 9-22 (.409) with two walks, two doubles, and three RBI off of Charlie Morton.

Coco Crisp ($2,900) has been a steal at that price lately, and he could be again. Crisp has three hits – two of them solo home runs – off of Hector Santiago in just eight at bats.

Jose Bautista ($4,500) is very much an all-or-nothing play tonight. He only has four hits in 20 at bats off of Tanaka, but one is a double and one is a homer.
