Mad TV returning on The CW with 8 new episodes
By Jeremy Dick
Sketch comedy series Mad TV is returning with a run of eight all-new episodes.
We haven’t seen a new episode of Mad TV since 2009, when the series was cancelled by Fox after a 14-year run. Inspired by the famous humor publication MAD Magazine, the show featured satirical parodies and sketches with an emphasis on pop culture and politically incorrect humor. It never reached the heights of Saturday Night Live, but it managed to develop its own cult following.
Now, fans of the show may be excited to hear that Mad TV is returning to television. The series will be airing on the CW network with eight new one-hour episodes. No names have yet been attached to appear on the show, but the network has hinted that it will feature an all new cast.
While we may see a new set of comedians in the regular cast on the revival, we’ll still see some familiar faces. The network also suggested that some former cast members would appear as guest hosts on the show. That will certainly help bridge the gap between the Mad TV we used to know and the CW revival, bringing back fans of the old series.
The show saw many different comedians make names for themselves by appearing on the program. This includes Jordan Peele and Keegan Michael-Key, who went on to host their own very successful show Key & Peele on Comedy Central. Other notable names include Alex Borstein, Bobby Lee, and Taran Killam.
No other information on the Mad TV revival has yet been revealed, such as the premiere date or timeslot. We’ll see if CW decides to air it on Saturday night in an attempt to compete with Saturday Night Live, the way Fox had back in 1995.
