Ex-Baylor DE Shawn Oakman arrested on sexual assault charges

Former Baylor Bears defensive end and NFL Draft hopeful Shawn Oakman has been arrested on sexual assault charges.

Baylor football continues to have a black cloud hanging over its program with yet another sexual assault allegation involving a member of Art Briles’ team.

Shawn Oakman was arrested on sexual assault charges on Wednesday, according to the Waco Tribune.

The former All-Big 12 defensive end allegedly assaulted the female victim on April 3 after meeting at a nightclub. Oakman is alleged to have forcibly removed the victim’s clothing, forced her onto his bed and sexually assaulted her.

Oakman says the sex was consensual.

Police removed two comforters, a fitted sheet and a flat sheet from Oakman’s bedroom where the alleged assault took place.

Oakman is the third Baylor football player arrested on sexual assault charges in the last four years, joining Tevin Elliott and Sam Ukwuachu who were convicted of rape in January of 2014 and last August.

Ukwuachu was a high-profile case after he was dismissed from Boise State and was cleared of any wrongdoing by the university before the court convicted him.

Baylor is the subject of a Title IX investigation stemming from the Elliott case where the victim accused the school of being indifferent to sexual assault victims. According to a report, Baylor took two years to look into the sexual assault case of Elliott.

With the NFL Draft beginning on April 28 and Oakman projected to be second-fourth round pick, you can bet his draft stock is plummeting so fast that he could potentially go undrafted.

He has bigger things to worry about like a potential conviction for sexual assault and Baylor will have a hard time shaking their reputation as a place where they don’t take sexual assaults seriously.
