In honor of the upcoming NFL Draft, let’s take a look at the top five picks in Minnesota Vikings history.

The Minnesota Vikings have a storied history filled with winning as well as ‘almost’. Four times they have gone to the Super Bowl but have come out on the losing end each time — three of which were when Viking great Fran Tarkenton was under center.

With Mike Zimmer at the helm now, he looks to bring the first Super Bowl to the franchise, but it won’t be easy. He has Adrian Peterson and a young, up-and-coming quarterback like Teddy Bridgewater leading the way, but Minnesota will need to add some talent via this year’s NFL Draft and maybe even free agency.

Many believe Minnesota will go wide receiver in the first round, which would be a solid idea since Stefon Diggs was the team’s No. 1 receiver as a rookie last year and no other pass-catcher finished with more than 500 yards. It’s tough to pick a receiver that won’t end up being a bust, but if he follows in the footsteps of other Viking receiver greats, they’ll be in good hands.

Since the Vikings became a team in 1961, there have been plenty of great, notable draft picks that have turned this organization into a proven winner.

Heck, even a year ago Diggs was a spark plug in the receiving corps. However, Blair Walsh’s incredibly unlucky missed field goal that would have beaten the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs last year ended their season far earlier than expected and hoped.

Adding another offensive threat could prevent games like that from coming down to a last-second field goal try.

On the note of good draft picks, let’s take a look at the five best in Minnesota Vikings history. Let us know if you agree or disagree with anyone or if we left someone out in the comment section below.
