NBA Rumors: Sacramento Kings to fire George Karl after season finale
By Jason Parker
A report says the Sacramento Kings will fire head coach George Karl following the 2015-16 season finale.
For the tenth straight season, the Sacramento Kings will finish the year with a losing record. While the team still has one game left of the 2015-16 season at Houston tonight, it seems as if the team is already looking toward next year… with a new person in the position of head coach.
Sources confirmed to ESPN that the Kings are ready to part ways with head coach George Karl not long after the season comes to an end:
Karl first came on board in California’s capital city in February of 2015, leading the Kings to an 11-19 record in his time to finish the season at 28-54. This season, the Kings sit at 33-48 with one game left.
Throughout the 2015-16 season, Karl has been on the hot seat in Sacramento. There was a dispute with star player Demarcus Cousins that almost led to Karl’s dismissal. In February, Karl reportedly kept his job after a meeting with the team’s front office, including general manager Vlade Divac.
Karl returned to the sidelines as a head coach after a year off following nine seasons with the Denver Nuggets. Karl has been a head coach in the NBA for 27 seasons, and has had stints with Cleveland, Golden State, Seattle and Milwaukee in addition to his time with Denver and Sacramento.
Karl signed a four year deal with the Sacramento Kings and is still due $10 million in guaranteed money from that contract. A new coach would be the ninth for the Kings since the 2006-07 season, the most of any team in the NBA.
